Gzip is a wonderful technology which reduce load on server at no extra cost.We can enable gzip compression by using a plugin called GZip Ninja Speed Compression.Or we can enable gzip compression by adding following lines to .ht access file.

AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html

AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/xml

AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/css

8. Clean Up WordPress Database

WordPress database can contain unuseful data that will slow down your website.Keep database size to minimum and remove draft posts, unwanted themes, plugins and many more. This will also reduce size of backups and of course speed up your wordpress blog. You can use two famous plugins to do the job. These are wp-optimize and wp db manager.

       9. Lazy Load Images

LazyLoad is the process of loading only the images which are visible to reader, when reader scrolls down, other images begin to load, just before they come into view.

This will not only speed you page loading, but also save bandwidth by loading less data for users who don’t scroll full page.A nice plugin named  jQuery Image Lazy Load do it automatically.

       10. Reduce The Number Of Post Revisions Stored

Normally we revise our wordpress posts many time before or after publishing it.Wordpress automatically store all of your revisions. Some posts have 20 revisions. But there is no use to have all versions of a single post.It slows down our website. Here is a nice plugin to do the job named Revision Control.By using this plugin you can set post revisions to any but you should keep it to maximum 3.In this way we can reduce load on server.

        11. Disable Hot Linking Of Images

Hotlinking is when a user display image from your website to his/her website by linking it.It will increase the load on your web server hence reducing your page load time. And you have no profit from this so why we have given permission to other person to harm us? because we don’t know about this. But this can be done very easily.

Just add following lines to your .htaccess file and done

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www.)?your-domain.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule .(gif|jpe?g|png)$ – [F]

Replace your-domain.com with your domain name and you have disabled the hot linking.
